Learn.

  • Know that the School Board works for you. Look up School Board's Legal Documents and statements: Mission Statement, Policies, Definitions, and budget documents.

    • District 47-"The School Board of Crystal Lake Community Consolidated School District 47 is the policy making body for the District's schools and serves within the framework provided by law, the will of the local citizenry and the ethics of the professional personnel employed by the School Board."

  • Know the Superintendent works for the Board which works for You!

    • District 47- "The School Board directs, through policy, the Superintendent in his or her charge of the administration of the District by delegating its authority to operate the District and provide leadership to staff. The Board employs and evaluates the Superintendent and holds him or her responsible for the operation of the District in accordance with Board policies and State and federal law."

  • Learn on what the Board spends your money on. Look up School Board's budget documents. Look for money spent on public vendors, training and curriculum.


Act.

  • Attend local school board meetings through-out the year (they typically occur monthly during the school year).

  • Read meeting minutes of prior meetings when can't attend.

  • Draft questions about spending on Critical Race Theory/Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI)-related activities, training and personnel. Money spent for public vendors.

  • Become involved in the Parent Teacher Association/Organization (PTA/PTO).

  • Share Information you find with other Parents and Parent Groups.

  • File a Freedom of Information (FOIA) Request if information you request from teachers, administrators, and Board members is not forthcoming.
